My God My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me? That's how we feel sometimes.. And God understand this feeling . When Jesus cried out on the cross, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46), many people hear doubt. Some take it as a reason not to believe— “If he is God, why would he say that?” I used to wrestle with that too. But those words come directly from Psalm 22:1: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me?” This psalm was written around a thousand years before Jesus. And it doesn’t end in despair—it moves through suffering into trust, and finally into hope and restoration. So when Jesus speaks these words, he is not just expressing pain—though the pain is real. He is also pointing back to something already written. Something prophetic. He is placing himself inside that story. This changed how I began to see it.
