Where Do Danish Vegans Get Their B12? 🇩🇰🌱
Where Do Vegans Get Their B12 🇩🇰🌱 Myth bust!
One of the biggest myths about veganism is that we can’t get enough B12 without supplements. But that’s simply not true! Here are the main B12 sources for vegans in Denmark as an example:
1. Nutritional Yeast (B12-Enriched) ✨
Nutritional yeast is a natural product made from fermented yeast and is often rich in B12. It has a delicious, cheesy, umami flavor that enhances:
- Pasta dishes
- Vegetable soups
- Kale stew 🍲 (adds great depth and umami!)
- Homemade Bread
- In vegan mayonnaise
I also personally mix it into my vegan dog's meals—especially with her favorite vegan tuna from Naturli! 🐶💚
2. Seaweed & Fermented Foods
Certain types of seaweed (like nori) and Marmite (a yeast extract spread) naturally contain B12.
3. Everyday Plant-Based Foods with B12
B12 is also found in:
- Vegan cheeses 🧀 like Violife
- Plant milks 🥛 like Oetly
- Some breakfast cereals
Since many plant-based foods are enriched with B12 in the same way that meat and dairy are (because farm animals are given B12 supplements too), there’s no reason to think that getting it from plants is less natural.
4. Do You Need a B12 Supplement?
If you’re eating a varied, whole-food plant-based diet, you might be getting enough B12 from fortified foods. However, just like non-vegans who eat mostly processed foods (like fries, nuggets, and soda), anyone can be at risk of B12 deficiency if their diet lacks diversity.
If you want to ensure a steady intake of B12, there are great vegan supplements available, like Spectro Veg 🌱—but it's just one option among many.
B12 & God’s Original Design for Food
God designed us from the earth, and our food was meant to come from it:
“Then God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.’”
— Genesis 1:29
Just as Adam was formed from the ground, we too are made of earth’s elements. And what fuels us best? The food that comes directly from it—plants! God never designed our bodies to rely on factory-farmed animals injected with artificial nutrients. Our true, natural way of receiving nourishment comes from the earth itself.
“By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”
— Genesis 3:19
This reminds us that our bodies are deeply connected to the earth. We came from it, and we will return to it. The food that sustains us should also come from it—not from the artificial, industrialized systems of factory farming that exploit both animals, immigrant workers without the Local aprived school or languge and the environment! That doesent sound very Godly does it?
Is B12 from Meat More Natural? Nope!
Many assume that getting B12 from meat is “more natural,” but that’s actually not true. The reason B12 is even present in animal products is that livestock are injected with synthetic B12 or given B12-enriched feed.
Why? Because modern industrial farming has damaged the soil, reducing the natural B12 levels that used to exist in plant life or water.
So, whether you take a B12 supplement yourself or eat an animal that was injected with it, you’re still getting the same thing. The most natural way to get B12 today is actually through a plant-based diet, just like our ancestors got it before the soil was depleted.
Why Is B12 Important?
Vitamin B12 plays a crucial role in:
✔️ Supporting brain function 🧠
✔️ Producing red blood cells 🩸
✔️ Keeping nerves healthy ⚡
✔️ Preventing fatigue and weakness 💪
A B12 deficiency can lead to symptoms like:
❌ Headaches and confusion 🤯
❌ Muscle pain and weakness 💢
❌ Numbness or tingling in hands and feet 🖐️
❌ Fatigue and dizziness 😵
So no need to be paranoid, your body will tell you, if you are lacking sometimeting.
B12 Deficiency Myths & Meat Industry Misinformation
The idea that vegans can’t get B12 is just another myth—likely spread by the meat and dairy industries, just like the "incomplete protein" myth. The truth? B12 is accessible in both plant-based foods and supplements, just like many nutrients in all diets.
So, whether you choose nutritional yeast, seaweed, fermented foods, everyday plant-based foods, or a vegan supplement, getting B12 as a vegan in Denmark or most other countrys, is completely possible, God-given, and healthier for you, the animals and the planet!
While animal products are often touted as the primary source of B12, they come with significant health risks that plantbased sources don’t have. Meat and dairy can contain harmful substances like cholesterol, saturated fats, and hormones, all of which have been linked to serious health issues, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and cancer.
When you consume B12 from animals, you're also ingesting these unhealthy additives. The risks associated with eating meat—such as the intake of toxic compounds, antibiotics, and artificial hormones—can undermine the health benefits you're seeking. In fact, regular consumption of animal products has been shown to increase the risk of developing chronic diseases, including certain types of cancer.
In contrast, plant-based B12 sources—such as fortified foods or supplements—give you the vitamin without the harmful side effects. Since plant-based B12 is typically produced through microbial fermentation, it's free of the bad fats, hormones, and toxins found in animal products. This makes plant-based B12 not only compassionate and sustainable, but also healthier for your body, supporting your nutritional needs without the added risks.
Connecting B12, Health, and the Original Diet: A Biblical Perspective
From a biblical perspective, God’s original plan for humanity in the Garden of Eden was a plant-based diet. In Genesis 1:29, I will point to once more to make this clear - God says to Adam and Eve, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for meat.” The earth was perfect—a harmonious existence where humans and animals lived in peace. There was no death, no violence, and no disease.
But when humans chose to turn away from God’s plan, sin and death entered the world. This shift brought suffering and decay—both to our bodies and to the earth.
In modern times, the consequences of eating animal products—which were never part of the original design—are seen in the health issues people face today: from heart disease and high blood pressure to diabetes and cancer. The consumption of meat, dairy, and processed animal products often leads to toxins, hormones, and bad fats, contributing to the diseases we now suffer. Ironically, these health problems weren’t part of God’s original vision for our lives.
By returning to a plant-based lifestyle, we are aligning more closely with God's original intent, honoring the health, peace, and sustainability that were meant for us from the beginning. This choice also connects to the moral and ethical aspect of caring for creation, as God entrusted us with the stewardship of the earth and its creatures.
Plant-based B12, provided through fortified foods or microbial fermentation, offers us the necessary vitamin without the harmful side effects of animal products. It’s a reminder that following God’s original plan for our diet can lead not only to a healthier body but also a holistic, spiritually and physically flourishing life.
Some might refer to Genesis 9:3, where God tells Noah, “Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.” This verse is often cited as God giving permission to eat animals after the flood. However, it's important to consider that Genesis 9:4 immediately follows, where God warns, “But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.” This suggests that the consumption of animals wasn't God’s original plan, but a concession after the fall. The presence of blood in meat may indicate that God’s intention was never for death to be a part of our diet, but rather that death came as a result of sin—and that humans are now living in a fallen world where survival has changed.

A Final Reflection: Is It Science, God, or Us?
When we look at the health problems caused by consuming animal products today, we must ask ourselves: Is it science, God, or us that is wrong? Science has shown that a plant-based diet promotes health and longevity, aligning perfectly with God’s original design for us in Genesis 1:29. And when we look at Isaiah 11, we see that the restored world, when Jesus returns, will reflect a peace and harmony that is only possible through a plant-based lifestyle.
The truth is, true science isn’t against God; it confirms His perfect plan. The issue isn’t with God's design but with the choices we’ve made. As Christians, if we truly seek to live in alignment with God’s will, embracing the vegan diet He originally gave us is part of returning to His perfect design.
So, the question remains: Is it God’s plan or our choices that have gone wrong?
