Why I Choose Christ Over Catholicism: My Journey to True Faith
For years, I struggled with the expectations placed upon me by my mother and the Catholic traditions she tried to impose. From childhood, I was surrounded by kaos and wickedness contrasted with religious symbols and rituals that never felt right in my spirit. I wore a dress embroidered with the Jesuit logo my mother had ordered in Poland to iniciate us in the cult at a very young age, the sunburst symbol with the letters IHS. At the time, I had no idea what it truly meant, but now, I see it for what it is — a false light pretending to be of Christ.
When I look at the teachings of Jesus, I see a Savior who never demanded elaborate rituals, sacraments, or intermediaries. He was direct, personal, and loving. He invited the poor, the broken, the outcast — not those who stood on pedestals or claimed spiritual authority over others. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). Notice, He did not say, "through the Church" or "through the Pope."
But that was not the Jesus I encountered in Catholicism. Instead, I was taught to bow to and fear priests who claimed to have power to forgive sins and transform bread and wine into the literal body and blood of Christ. I was told to pray to saints and to Mary, as though my prayers to Jesus Himself were not enough. This system of mediators and rituals felt more like a confussing barrier than a bridge to God.
When I finally broke free, I began to read the Bible for myself after some years of healing. What I found was a Jesus who sets captives free, not a Jesus who binds them to religious systems and repetitive rituals. I discovered that I didn’t need a man in a robe or a wafer on an altar to connect with God. I only needed Jesus — the true Jesus, not the one hidden behind incense smoke and ornate idols.
Now, I call myself a Christian, a follower of Christ, not a Catholic. I do not belong to a man-made institution. I belong to the living God. Jesus alone is my Lord, my Shepherd, and my Savior. And in Him, I have found a freedom that no earthly system could ever provide.
To those who are still caught in religious systems that feel heavy and burdensome, I say this: Jesus’ yoke is easy, and His burden is light (Matthew 11:30). You don’t have to carry the weight of man-made rituals or false teachings. You can come to Him directly, just as you are. And in Him, you will find rest for your soul.
